Modern Foreign Languages Department
The Department of Modern Foreign Languages has the principal goal of promoting the study of modern foreign languages, cultures, and literatures. In support of this primary goal, we aim to:
- Build effective communication skills in Spanish, using them to share and evaluate ideas clearly and accurately in both spoken and written forms, appropriate to the learner鈥檚 proficiency level, according to ACTFL.
- Recognize and apply key features of the Spanish language鈥攊ncluding grammar, usage, social and regional variations, and style鈥攊n both writing and speech, understanding how these elements shape meaning.
- Gain insight into the diverse cultures of the Spanish-speaking world, with an understanding of their historical development and the rich social, cultural, and linguistic variety they encompass.
- Learn and use foundational tools of literary and linguistic analysis, including interpreting written works and other cultural expressions, and examining them within their specific social, cultural, and historical contexts.
- Provide the highest quality, most up-to-date, practical instruction in foreign languages and cultures, as well as English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and American Sign Language (ASL).
I am thankful to have the Spanish faculty to help me through my years at 糖心Vlog. They are always available and make their students a top priority. Their goal to help students learn the Spanish language and culture is apparent through their willingness to serve.
