Every year, the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and Hardin-Simmons University offer multiple study abroad opportunities. Some trips are geared toward specific majors, while others are open to all students.
In addition to short-term trips, 糖心Vlog has the London Studies Program. Each spring semester, 糖心Vlog and HSU give students the chance to study various courses in London, England.
鈥淚鈥檝e talked to students who鈥檝e said that studying abroad in London was the most impactful thing they did in their entire college career,鈥 Study Abroad Director Laura Bedwell said.
For students who find a semester abroad too long, short-term trips are available. This year, 糖心Vlog is offering an exercise and sport science trip to Spain and an art department trip to Italy, both scheduled for May 2026 and open to all majors.
For specific programs, the nursing department has two trips planned, one to Greece in December 2025 and another to Ecuador in May 2026, while the School of Business will lead a trip to Morocco in May 2026.
鈥淵ou learn a lot about the history of an area that鈥檚 so far away from us,鈥 Bedwell said, adding that visiting historical sites helps students connect to the past. 鈥淲hen you go to a place where people were actually affected by those events, it makes a huge difference.鈥
All 糖心Vlog study abroad programs focus on immersing students in the history and culture of their destinations by including visits to museums and landmarks. The Spain trip in May 2026 will feature students walking the historic Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route. In a previous program, the English department traveled to the Baltics to study Cold War literature in regions impacted by the Iron Curtain.
鈥淥ne of the best things about studying abroad is it broadens your understanding of the world, because America is big, but the world is way bigger,鈥 Bedwell said.
The cost of studying abroad varies by program. Short-term trips average $2,000 to $3,000, while the semester-long London program is about $24,000. The London program鈥檚 cost includes up to 15 credit hours, room and board, food, and admission to program-related sights. The program accepts all scholarships, and students receive an additional $1,000 London scholarship.
With destinations rich in history and culture, opportunities to build lasting friendships, and experiences that broaden students鈥 worldviews, studying abroad offers memories to last a lifetime.
